Old Glenn: Project Overview

The Old Glenn Highway is being upgraded to provide new paving, shoulders, a
multi-use pathway, and lighting at major side street intersections. In general, it
will be widened from 24 feet to 32 feet. The additional width allows for 4-foot
shoulders on each side of the road. The shoulders will add margin of safety for
vehicles and provide a place for pedestrians and cyclists to travel in addition to the
separated trail. The highway will be widened at the intersection of South
Birchwood Road to accommodate left and right turn lanes and at North Birchwood
Road to accommodate a left turn lane. A truck climbing lane is also included for
the hill below the Chugiak Fire Station.
